A good choice is an A Frame about 6 feet long by 4 feet wide. An ark or tractor this size will be suitable for about 5/6 hens, but not too large that it will be hard to move around the garden.

Hens will lay more eggs and be more happy in a healthy and clean home. A raised perch will provide them a place off the ground to sleep, and keep them dry when it rains.
